Who is the Internet Engineering Task Force?
In Summary:
The IETF is an international group of volunteers consisting of network designers, operators, vendors, researchers and other interested individuals. The IETF is concerned with developing solutions to technical problems and needs as they arise on the Internet and with developing Internet standards and protocols.
Most of the work of the IETF is done by working groups. Each working group focuses on a
particular issue in one of ten technical areas ranging from network security to routing.
Working groups collaborate with each other via mailing lists and the IETF holds three
meetings a year. The results of a working group are usually made available to the Internet
community in an RFC.
